Cynthia Amen

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Amen is a clinical psychologist who has over 20 years of experience working with adults and children.

She completed her predoctoral internship at Duke University Medical Center and received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

She had a private practice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving with her family to Pocatello, where she has been a member of Psychological Assessment Specialists since 2004.

Dr. Amen strongly believes in the scientist-practitioner model as the foundation for helping people to manage life’s challenges. Regarding the “scientist” part, she is well-trained in evidence-based interventions (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Dialectical Behavior Therapy) for a variety of issues (including mood disorders, anxiety, anger management problems, and relationship difficulties). Regarding the “practitioner”part, she is a clinician who views her role as facilitating people to recognize their strengths and to take action in creating the life they want for themselves.

In her own life, Dr. Amen tries to practice what she recommends to others: to approach each day with a renewed sense of hope and gratitude.
